The St. John Vianney Seminary in Denver was officially Commissioned in 1999 on what had been the St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary. The Seminary has Seminarians from all three Diocese in Colorado as well as 10 other Diocese in the United States and two Seminarians from Vietnam.
The St. John Vianney Seminary is not a Collegiate Seminary, which means that the Seminarians come to St. John Vianney already possessing a College Degree. All Seminarians begin with a Spirituality Year, this year is focused on continued discernment of their vocation as well as focus on the fundamental teachings of the Church. During the Spiritualty year the Seminarians all live together on the grounds of the Seminary. After the Spirituality year the Seminarians live in one of several off campus communities.
The course of study for the Seminarians generally includes two years of Philosophy followed by four years of Theology. During the fourth year of Theological study the Seminarians are ordained as transitional Deacons and assuigned to work at a parish in the Archdiocese of Denver.
