John D. Stearns
Seminarian for the Diocese of Colorado Springs
For those of you who may not know my background well, here is a quick summary. I was born in April of 1967. My father was killed in Vietnam in July of that same year. I was raised by my Mom and Grandparents. I attended Catholic school through the 3rd grade where I started public school. I continued in public school through college.
I attended Arroyo Grande high school and graduated in 1985. While in high school, I started the SADD program, was active in the police explorer scouts and was named in the "Who's Who of American High School Students". I graduated with several scholarships and awards and went on to college. I attended Allan Hancock College where I graduated with a degree in Liberal Arts. I then moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA.
While in L.A. I worked for Schaeffer Ambulance. In 1990, I joined the United States Air Force. I was trained as a Firefighter/Paramedic. While in the Air Force, I was stationed in Saudi Arabia, Germany, Italy and Colorado. I served in the first Desert Storm, the Bosnian Conflict, Operation Southern Watch and several other missions and conflicts. I was selected to be a team member of the Space Shuttle Recovery Crew and also attended Advanced Rescue School. I separated from the Air Force in 1999 as a Staff Sergeant.
After a couple of transition jobs, I went to work for TCF Bank as a loan officer in 2000. I worked my way up and finally became a Vice President of Consumer Lending in 2005. I left the bank in September of 2007. I am attending the Kenrick-Glennon Roman Catholic Seminary in St. Louis, MO. I am now in my second year at the Kenrick School of Theology working toward my Master of Divinity and, God willing, ordination to the Catholic Priesthood.
As I said at the beginning, this is a short summary, so I have only noted the highlights. As always, if you have questions, please ask. You may also click the link "Visit my website" directly below to be taken to my personal blog.
Please keep me and all seminarians in your thoughts and prayers. May God bless you always.
Yours in Christ, John
